The Motor Boat Fleet is an "open" fleet, all members of the AYC are invited and encouraged to join the fleet, attend the monthly meetings and participate in the activities and events regardless of whether or not they own a motorboat.
The Motor Boat Fleet started as a support group for the sailing fleets to provide rescue and support boats for the racing programs and regattas. As time went on, it became a vehicle for constructing and maintaining covered motor boat docks and evolved into a full fleet with a year around program of social activities.
The May meeting is a "cruise". This started out with the members trailering their motor boats to various close by lakes. In recent years we have rented pontoon boats at the destination. One favorite destination is Watts Bar Lake on the Tennessee River above Chattanooga. The cottages there are the refurbished construction camp used by the engineers and superintendents when Watts Bar Dam was built back in the 40’s. Other destinations have been Lake Guntersville, Lake George, Hard Luck Creek, Lake Chatuga and a cruise on the Chattahoochee river out of Columbus.
The June meeting has frequently been a cruise up the lake to Red Top Mountain with dinner at the lodge.
The July meeting is the shrimp boil. This dinner is enjoyed by all of the AYC members and is one of the premier informal Club parties.
The August meeting is a raft party where the members having pontoon boats take them to a secluded cove on Lake Allatoona, raft up and enjoy a party, dinner and entertainment.
