Perpetual Trophies

Championship Division Skipper and Crew

These two trophies were hand made in 1959 and 1960 by the same craftsman and are silver on top of copper. There is one for the first place skipper and one for the winning crew in the Spooks Division.

Top Goblin Skipper

The "Red Witch" trophy was donated by Paul Whitier in 1979 and was first won by Bill Hooper. Paul was a local Snipe sailor who was still sailing in his nineties with his 70 year old daughter crewing for him. After finally finishing first, he felt a trophy should go to someone who "finally" won first place. It is given to the first place Skipper in the Goblins.

Highest Placing Female Skipper

This trophy was donated by Woody Norwood in memory of his sister, Victoria Norwood Nyshay in the year 2000. It is awarded to the top female skipper in the Halloween Regatta Spook Division. It was first won by Tarasa Davis.

Fred Pember Trophy for Top Junior Skipper

Fred Pember, a member in the 60's, first petitioned SCIRA to use this trophy in the Nationals for those sailors who had already qualified and wanted to race while those who had not qualified sailed in the Crosby. It was made by Frank Willard, a member of AYC. Tom McLaughlin first won it in '72. After 32 years SCIRA decided to retire this trophy at the national level and returned it to AYC as the Deed resided with Snipe Fleet 330. Fred Pember was an avid supporter of the Junior Program. The trophy is given the top Junior Team.If there is no winning junior team, then the Pember Trophy will go to the highest finishing junior skipper with adult crew. The poem is a translation of the Latin inscription on the flag, "Primus Pro Tem"; you're first for now."

Don Hackbarth Trophy for Highest Finishing Master

In 2006 Sam " Woody" Norwood along with other fleet 330 members decided that we needed a perpetual trophy to award to the highest finishing Master Sailor (55 or older) at the Halloween Regatta. This trophy was dedicated to one of our fleet members, Don Hackbarth, who has worked tirelessly to promote snipes both locally and world-wide. He has served as SCIRA US National Secretary for several years as well as being on the SCIRA US Board of Directors and serving as Chairman of Class Development and Growth. As such he has traveled to Snipe events worldwide, helping the class to retain its ranking as one of the strongest one-design classes in the world.
