Atlanta Yacht Club : Junior Sailing Program

The Atlanta Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program is a fantastic way to learn to sail or improve sailing skills for sailors from 6 to 18 years old. Our instructors make the classes fun and informative.

2010 Schedule

Intermediate / Advanced - Spring Opti Clinics
Clinic #1 April 17/18 -- get tuned up for the AYC Opti Regatta! Coach Tom Coleman will lead a weekend to shake off any cobwebs and get the season started right.

Class Descriptions

Early Birds

Ages 6-8 in Optis - must be 6 by June 1st, 2010

Description: This class is an introduction to sailing with a heavy emphasis on fun activities on and off the water. Parental participation is required.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim; swim test from Opti dock at first session.

Parental Involvement: Parents must be willing to assist in supervision of kids on and off the water. There will be a snack / drink rotation.

Fee: $80 member / $130 non-member


Basic Sailing

Ages 9-13 in Optis

Description: This class is focused on boat handling and is best suited for graduates of Early Birds and those with minimal racing experience. Classes are designed to improve sailing skills, boat handling and confidence in a low key, non-racing environment.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim; swim test from Opti dock to Sunfish dock at first session.

Fee: $80 member / $130 non-member


What to Bring

Juniors must bring their own life jackets, as well as be able to swim. They will also need tennis or boat shoes (covered toes!), a bathing suit, t-shirt, sunscreen, towel, hat, water bottle and sunglasses.


Important Registration Information

Non-members are encouraged and welcome to attend based on availability. Space is limited, so registering early is recommended.

Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is through Active.com. Payment is by credit card online only.
