Opti Club Racing Program

The Opti Club Racing Program is coming and is open to club members' children ages 15 and under. The program is designed for these young sailors, and the emphasis will be on the kids having fun. For those sailors who want to satisfy a competitive urge, they'll have that opportunity as well. Awards will be given at the end of the season.

The idea will be to have one kid per boat, however within reason we should be able to accommodate more than a dozen kids. If we have more participating than the number of boats available, then we will swap kids out of boats between races, so each child has a good experience. Swapping boats is typical in junior fleet racing.

There will be weekly races on Sundays after church, beginning August 8, and the season will finish with a mini-regatta during Halloween weekend.

During 2005, we plan to build on this program to create a 'travel team' that will sail at away regattas.

If your child is interested, please contact Al Daniel, Brian Haile, and Tom Schmitt for more details. In addition to young participants, we are also looking for parents to assist with weekly races.
